Green Zone of Bellary

The city basks in the beauty of nature’s bountifulness. Being located in an arid region, Bellary has slowly acquired the amazing greenery over the past few years due to the collective efforts of the inhabitants, Municipal Corporation and regional forest department. It is indeed great to witness such a drastic change in a town that was once buried under the ravages of the past. The urge for saving the nature and understanding the effects of global warming motivated the local people to come forward and save the natural treasures of the land. Many respected and educated individuals also contributed lot for making the city a better place to live in. Number of parks and gardens shows the greener side of the city. It is no more tagged as a dull, dry place with historic structures. The city in Karnataka is now known for its versatility.

Famous Parks and Gardens in Bellary

Kuntegadda Park

Also named as the Dr. Rajkumar Park or Golden Jubilee Park, this green urban park offers beautiful scenic view along with varieties of flora. It is quite astonishing to discover that the area was once a slum. This drastic change took place due to the marvelous and dedicated efforts of the government authorities like Ms. Manjula and Ms. Gouri Trivedi. The garden features a beautiful artificial lake created out of a disused granite quarry and a fountain with lovely musical shows. Children’s area with number of rides attracts the toddlers. The park presents natural ambiance and thus allures many nature lovers. The best part is that it is just half km from Railway Station and one km from Bus Stand.

Dr. Vishnuvardhan Park

This park was opened for public in the year 2011.It was inaugurated to pay respect and tribute to the famous veteran actor Dr.Visnuvardhan. There is a statue of this popular Kannada actor in the park. Jindal Steels Ltd. Constructed the park with a cost of about Rs. 110 Crores. The park spreads over an area of 3 acres. It offers ample space and opportunity for children to enjoy. It is 5 km away from Railway Station and Bus Stand.

Kaategudda Park

It is another popular hangout place for many nature lovers. Children as well as elders love to crawl into this green zone to feel the fresh air. It shelters number of tress.

Nagaruru Narayanarao Park

It was once a popular place for locals. Now, it is not so well-maintained and that reduced its popularity to some extent.

Basavanakunta Park

Being formed out of a granite quarry, this urban park attracts lot many travelers and locals to enjoy the nature’s bountifulness. The park offers various types of plants and trees.

Parvathinagar Park

It is another name uttered by the locals when people ask about greenery in Bellary. The park is well-decorated and allures many people.  It is maintained and funded by Jindal Vijayanagar Steels Corporation. 

Bellary Zoo and Children Park

It is a major attraction for the children. The zoo is well maintained and decorated with various types of plants and trees. Being inaugurated in 1981, the zoo stretches over an area of 2.4 hectares and shelters variety of fauna. Main attractions of the zoo are spotted deer, Indian Peafowl, Python, Cobra, Blackbuck etc. Other animals residing here are crocodile, jackal, Boar, Bear and panther. It is a favorite place to visit for the children as well as animal lovers. The controlling authority of this zoo is the chief Wild Life Warden, Karnataka. It is only 3 km away from Railway Station and Bus Stand.

The Kumbara and Ballary Rock Hills

These are the major attractions of the city and offer fresh air to breathe. It is an abode that shelters flora of different varieties. From Ber, the thorny Acacia (pennata, latronum, nilotica, catechu, ferruginea etc.) to the whirl nut, everything is available here. There are many other species of flora in these hills that amaze the sight of any traveler coming across the planet.
